Ice baths in Yarrawonga
The two minutes that change the day.
Two baths in one room, at two temperatures. Eleven minutes a week is all of it.

What it is.
Mode has two ice baths in the same room at different temperatures. The first sits at 10 to 15 degrees. It is approachable, and the right place to start. The second sits at 6 to 8 degrees, a harder hit for when your body is ready. Two to three minutes in either does the work.
Cold triggers a controlled stress response that floods you with dopamine and norepinephrine, and the lift lasts hours after you step out. It is the hardest two minutes of your week. It also makes the rest of the week easier.
Choose this if
- You feel foggy, slow or unmotivated.
- You are inflamed or sore from training.
- You need a hard reset on a bad day.
- You want real resilience to stress, not another way to cope with it.
- You want the simplest, most tested tool for sustained focus.
The science
Cold exposure is not a trend. It is one of the most measured protocols in the literature for mood, focus and metabolic health, and the doses are small.
- 250%
- Dopamine, as a share of baseline, after sixty seconds at 14 degrees. The effect holds for up to five hours (Šrámek et al., 2000).
- 200 to 300%
- The norepinephrine rise. That is the chemistry behind the focus and the mood lift, not the willpower.
- 11 min
- Total cold per week in the Søberg protocol, split across two to four sessions. The most widely cited target there is.
How often.
| Frequency | What you will feel |
|---|---|
| 1 session a week | A meaningful reset, and some lift in mood. |
| 2 to 4 sessions a week, 2 to 3 minutes each | The full focus and recovery effect, and the eleven minutes a week that actually matter. |
| More than 11 minutes a week | Diminishing returns. The extra cold is not buying you anything. |
What to expect.
First session
- Start in the warmer bath at 10 to 15 degrees.
- The first thirty seconds is the hardest part.
- Breathe through your nose, slow and controlled. Your body will want to gasp. Do not.
- After sixty seconds the cold becomes manageable.
- Get out before you shiver uncontrollably.
Straight after
- Do not shower hot. Let your body rewarm itself over ten to fifteen minutes.
- You will feel alert, calm, and slightly euphoric.
- That is the dopamine and the norepinephrine, and it runs three to five hours.
After a few weeks
- You will want the cold on the hard days.
- Tolerance builds quickly, and the 6 to 8 degree bath stops feeling impossible.
- Stress lands softer through the week.
- Sleep on cold days is usually deeper.
Ice baths in Yarrawonga
Start where you can actually hold it
Most people meet cold water once, at whatever temperature it happened to be, and decide it is not for them. Mode has two baths for that reason. You start at 10 to 15 degrees, which is manageable, and move down to 6 to 8 when your body is ready rather than when someone tells you. Both hold temperature every day, so eleven minutes a week is something you can keep doing.
Both baths share a room with a sauna, which makes contrast therapy one session rather than two bookings. Hot, then cold, then out.

Common questions.
Where can I do an ice bath in Yarrawonga?+
Mode is at 4/127 Belmore Street, Yarrawonga. Two ice baths and a sauna share the one room, available to members, who book in the Serenity app.
How cold are the ice baths at Mode?+
One bath sits at 10 to 15°C and the other at 6 to 8°C. Start in the warmer bath. Most people move to the colder one after four or five sessions.
How long should I stay in an ice bath?+
Two to three minutes is a full session. Eleven minutes a week in total, spread across two to four sessions, is the target, so there is nothing to gain by pushing a single plunge longer.
Can I do the sauna and the ice bath together?+
Yes. The ice baths share a room with an infrared sauna, so you can run hot to cold in the one session. Both together count as a single session credit.
